Watts was born 28 September 1968. Following the move of her family to
Australia, she made her debut in film in the drama For Love Alone (1986) after
which she appeared in three television series, Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of
Christ (1991) and Home and Away (1991) as well as the feature film Flirting
(1991). Watts was a failed actress when she first arrived in the United States.
She acted in small-scale movies and eventually became an actress. This was the
beginning of her rise to international prominence. Watts was then cast as a
tortured journalist in The Ring (2002). Her performance as an emotional mother
in Alejandro's 21 Grams (2003) was nominated for the Academy Award. Her fame
continued to grow as she starred in I Heart Huckabees (2004). King Kong (2006),
Eastern Promises ((2007)) and The International (2009). Watts was nominated for
an Academy Award as Best Actress for her role in The Impossible (2012). In the
2010s, she starred in such films as Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014), While
We're Young (2015), The Glass Castle (2017) and Luce (2019). Watts continued
her acting career by making blockbuster appearances, including in Divergent
(2015-2016).
