Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and was a part of her early years living in Chicago. Amy resided in Glen Ellyn the city of Illinois, up until she graduated from junior college. The family also lived in the Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at American School. Amy is the mother of two sisters: Betsy and Lori, along with a brother Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her family as well as independently. Since her parents were teachers which allowed them to enjoy every summer with each other, traveling and camping across the United States. They've camped in every US state with the exception of Alaska. Amy traveled to Rwanda in 1994 following the war in order to help with the relief efforts. In the beginning, Amy showed artistic talent performing in school productions and winning contests to write. In high school she was a dazzling athlete who was a part of the very first 3200 meter relay at the Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she returned to college and played many parts on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth July” and then directed Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon. Amy graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) as a cum laude graduate with an A.A. East Asian history with a concentration in Theater. She relocated to Chicago afterward and studied Improv at the Improv Olympic and then acting in the theater at The Actor's Center. An acting contract on the now-defunct soap show Another World (1964) moved her to NYC right after graduating. She has been nominated for an Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable roles were of strong women like Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson currently lives in New York City together with Syd Butler (bassist of Les Savy Fav), and she is part-owner of Frenchkiss Records. Amy is still working on film and writing.
